If you saw a little boy fall out of a moving car last week, police want to hear from you.
A dark Volkswagen was driving out of a mini-mall about 7:45 p.m. last Thursday at 1220 St. Laurent Blvd. when the left rear door opened. A boy, aged about two, fell out onto the street. The car kept going.
A witness quickly picked up the child from the road and two women came to help. Police say the driver came back after a few minutes, told the group he was the boy’s father, and put the boy back in the car. They drove along Queen Mary Street towards the Vanier Parkway.
Police want to interview the driver. They say he is black, in his mid to late 30s, five-feet-10-inches tall with a medium build and very short curly hair. He speaks English, French and another language that the witnesses didn’t recognize.
The vehicle was described as a dark four-door Volkswagen four-door, possibly black, from the mid 2000s, possibly a Jetta. The windows were not tinted and it had an infant car seat in the back.
The child is black and wore a hooded lime green and purple coat.
The Ottawa Police Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Section is looking to speak to the driver as well as witnesses at 613-236-1222, ext. 5944. Anonymous tips can be submitted by calling Crime Stoppers at 613-233-8477 or 1-800-222-8477.
