A Gatineau woman has been charged after an incident Friday in which she crossed the Gatineau River on foot after slamming her car into a ditch, then fighting with her father over the car keys.

Police in MRC des Collines said they responded to a call of a vehicle in the ditch near McLinton Road in La Pêche shortly before 4 p.m. on Friday.

They found the 21-year-old woman’s father trying to get the car out of the ditch and were told an argument had taken place between the woman and her father after he tried to confiscate her car keys.

The woman fled the scene, crossing the frozen Gatineau River on foot.

She was found walking along Highway 105 on the other side of the river.

According to police, the woman’s blood-alcohol level was two-and-a-half times the legal limit.

Her vehicle was seized for 30 days and her driver’s licence has been suspended for 90 days.

The woman, whose identity was not released, is to appear in a Gatineau court on April 30.
