Ottawa police have arrested 30 men on prostitution charges after a four-day “john sweep” in the downtown area.

In a news release Friday night, Ottawa police said that between April 29 and 30, and May 6 and 7, officers targeted prostitution in the ByWard Market and Vanier areas.

“This project stems from community and business concerns in relation to ongoing prostitution and males soliciting for that purpose in residential neighbourhoods,” Staff Sgt. Sam Fawaz said in the release.

The 30 arrested men are alleged to have been soliciting prostitution.

The eight men who did not qualify for john school, police said, were charged with other criminal offences, including drug trafficking, mischief under $5,000 and breach of probation.
