Two students at a high school north of Cornwall avoided criminal charges after a “prank” with a replica gun, but their principal says they’re still in deep trouble with the school.

The two youths fired plastic pellets from an Airsoft gun — a non-lethal replica of a real gun — and hit two other teens outside the school Wednesday afternoon.

“It was intended to be a prank, and obviously not funny,” said Robert Carrier, principal of Tagwi Secondary School in Avonmore, about 75 kilometres southeast of Ottawa. “No one intended to hurt anybody.”

A pellet left a small cut on one victim’s leg but there was no other injury, he said. Police laid no charges but he said the other two students will be dealt with “severely.” The students involved are all 17 or 18, he said.
