Police are describing extensive damage caused to a cottage east of Ottawa as a “hate crime.”

The cottage on Boundary Road in the township of Alfred-Plantagenet was broken into and ransacked sometime between Aug. 11 and 20, Ontario Provincial Police in Hawkesbury said Monday. Furniture and windows were broken and a truck on the property was vandalized.

Police said they “believe this incident to be a hate crime against the victim,” but have not released further details.

Anyone with information is asked to call Hawkesbury OPP at 613-632-2729 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
