NDP

只有KC Larocque回了一句“I don't think any party is planning on changing this for this election but I'll check.”

PC

他说there are currently provisions for doing this for families with children, and you have made the case for applying it to all couples. It’s an issue that will be sure to be raised in the next Parliament。

Dear ****,

Thank you for taking the time to write to me regarding our plan to deliver fairness for the middle class, and for sharing your circumstances with us.

Liberals know the economy only works when it works not just for the fortunate few, but for everyone. That’s what we mean by fairness.

After a decade of Stephen Harper, Canadians are working harder and longer, but the economy is not working for them, and incomes are not keeping up with the cost of living. The middle class is the heart of the Canadian economy. That is why, when we strengthen our middle class, we grow our economy; we build a Canada where people who work hard can look forward to a good standard of living, a secure retirement, and better prospects for their kids. We have plan to deliver real change for all Canadians by creating jobs, growing the middle class, and helping those working hard to join it.

The Liberal plan will make the tax system fairer and cut the middle class tax rate from 22% to 20.5%. That means the tax rate on any income you earn between $44,701 to $89,401 will drop by seven percent. We will create one bigger, fair, automatic, and tax-free monthly benefit that will help families with the high cost of raising their kids. Nine out of ten families will get more from our plan. And we will also ask the wealthiest Canadians – those in the top one percent of incomes – to pay a little more so the middle class can pay less.

Investing in infrastructure is also vital to creating middle class jobs today and sustained economic growth for years to come. Every dollar spent on public infrastructure grows and makes our economy more competitive, while also creating jobs, strengthening our cities and communities, and improving our health, well-being, and quality of life. A Liberal government will create jobs with the most significant infrastructure investment in Canadian history – $60 billion in new funding over the next ten years.

We will also undertake a review of escalating home prices in high-priced markets – like Vancouver and Toronto – to determine whether speculation is driving up the cost of housing, and survey the policy tools that could keep home ownership within reach for more Canadians.

Canadians know that economic growth is not just about prosperity – it is about building a country that gives everyone a real and fair chance to succeed. That is why Liberals have assembled a strong team, and a strong plan, that will grow the economy, create jobs, and strengthen the middle class.

While your question is simple, I'm afraid that that my answer is not that simple as I cannot answer it without talking to the economists that work for the Canada Revenue Agency and the Department of Finance. I will however promise to put it on my list of questions that I will pursue once elected and will provide you updates when I receive more information.

Anita Vandenbeld的回复(这个是俺觉得回复得最棒的一位):I agree that, on the surface, the tax system as highlighted in your example appears unfair. However, there are other factors that need to be considered. For instance, the single family earner presumably has a stay-at-home spouse that is able to do unpaid and untaxed work at home, which is an advantage. The two-income household likely has to hire childcare and other services, which in some respects justifies a lower tax burden. Also, it is important that our tax system not discourage labour force participation, and the change you suggest (basing the tax system on the whole family income) might reduce the incentive for some potential labour force participants to work. Moreover, you have noted that you agree with a progressive tax system. However, basing income tax on the whole family income would help higher income Canadians the most -- that is, as you repeat your example below you will see that the benefit would rise as family incomes rise.

Ron McKinnon:
"In October 2014, the Conservatives announced the Family Tax Cut, a variation on their 2011 election promise to allow spouses with children to split up to $50,000 of income for tax purposes. The major change was that the Family Tax Cut notionally splits the income and is delivered as a tax credit with a maximum value of $2,000"
... meaning that in the two scenarios you mentioned (assuming they qualify for income splitting at all) will be a maximum difference of $2000, not $7688.
