A horse was killed in a collision between a large cube van and an Amish buggy north of Belleville, provincial police say.
According to police, the buggy was travelling north on Hastings County Road 62 at about 6:20 p.m. Friday when the horse darted into oncoming traffic. A 14-year-old boy operating the buggy was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and the horse died at the scene. The cube van sustained significant front end damage, the OPP said.
Police said that while they have responded to accidents between buggies and cars in the past, the number they get called to is surprisingly low considering the number of horse-drawn carriages that regularly traverse roadways in the region.
