Ottawa paramedics were called to an unusual crash scene Friday night when an Ornge ambulance collided with a horse in Ottawa’s southeast end.
The crash occurred at about 10 p.m. when the Ornge ambulance, transferring a patient to an Ottawa hospital, hit the animal at the intersection of Hawthorne and Rideau roads.
A paramedics spokesperson said Saturday the Ornge vehicle was rolling through the intersection “and the horse apparently just walked onto the roadway.”
Two paramedics, their patient and a family member escort were uninjured in the collision.
The horse was killed and the ambulance was heavily damaged.
Ottawa paramedics continued the patient transfer to hospital.
Paramedics said Saturday they had no information on where the horse came from, although there are a number of rural properties in the area.
