Ottawa firefighters used a construction crane and a “stokes” basket to rescue a worker after a large piece of ice reportedly fell on him at the bottom of a 31-metre pit at Preston Street and and Carling Avenue Wednesday morning.
The worker, in his 20s, is described as being in critical condition with head and other injuries.
Emergency personnel treat worker struck by chunk of ice at bottom of 30-metre pit.
First responders were called to the big construction site at 505 Preston St. shortly after 7 a.m. on reports that the worker had fallen. Responders subsequently determined he had been struck by the piece of ice, according to a release by Ottawa paramedics.
Witnesses reported that emergency crews administered CPR to the man.
A large condo project is underway at the site.
