[请求] Adding 80GB Harddrive

Try to search the Web of your HD's manufacture, see if there is an upgraded
driver for win2000.

Also, try to goto the Web of your MatherBoard's manufacture, see if there is
a newer bios. Read the "readme"s, to see if there is anything to do with
supporting large harddisk. These sites usually have "how to upgrade your BIOS"
so read it carefully if you find you need to upgrade BIOS.

同意书生的说法,而且强烈建议备份重要数据,
重新安装2000。

Thanks, i will try tonight!

Gosh, this thing takes time!

99.9%是老的BIOS不支持大容量硬盘.可去主板厂家的网站查查有没有新的BIOS更新。
(另: PIII 450MB是CPU,不是主板Motherboard)

同意你的说法. 因为你的主板最大可支持的33GB

update motherboard's bios ,it's the right way

Thanks, all! I didn't have any luck last night...But it took me too much time to try this and that, and it ended up with no chance for me to investigate on the BIOS upgrades.

But, can anyone walk me through the steps for upgrading the BIOS...and there is another thing that really confuses me, which is the CMOS setup: the manual says that should be USER/.../NORMAL, but or USER/..../TBA (?cant remember exactly). Does this really matter?

1) find out what MB you have. Either check your shipping list when you
buy the machine, or trun on moniter, and boot the machine, see if
the MB manufacture brand is print out (this usually also have the
BIOS version)

2) go online, find the manufacture HP, there usually have upgrade BIOS
to download. Make sure you find the right BIOS and download it.

3) Either the download file is self-decompress, or there will be a util
on same web to write the file onto a floppy. You need to prepare
a blank floppy.

4) Some BIOS have a "BIOS update enable/disable" setting, in BIOS setting
menu, make sure it is enabled.

5) Boot from the floppy, wait, wait, wait ... :) and it will tell you after
it updated your BIOS. (the update won't take 5 minutes :)

6) reboot make sure your new BIOS have a higher version.

steps 3-5 should also be on the same webpage, read it carefully in
case there is a different step requested.

Thanks a lot!!!

This is the BIOS info, but first, you have to figure out which motherboard you have? for example ASUS P2-99, ASUS P2B, ...
