Hundreds of public servants were cleared from the Passport Canada building at 22 Varennes St. in Gatineau for several hours Wednesday after officials found a suspicious package.
The call came shortly before 10 a.m. Police cleared the building and many workers were put aboard buses for security.
Gatineau police also contacted specialists from the Sûreté du Québec, who arrived at the scene early in the afternoon to examine the package.
After a 45-minute examination, the package was deemed to be safe, although police will not reveal the contents.
