A federal government building in Gatineau’s Hull sector has been evacuated after a suspicious package containing a corrosive white power was found.
Witnesses in the building at 70 Rue Crémazie say the woman who opened the package has “serious burns,” but the substance is still unknown.
The entire building has been evacuated, except the floor where the package was found. People on that floor have been quarantined.
Gatineau police have asked for assistance from specialists from the Sûreté du Québec. Hazmat experts from Ottawa were also en route.
Three municipal buses were at the scene to shelter evacuees.
