The body of a man who was last seen on Friday has been found in a small lake in Val-des-Monts, and police believe he drowned in a boating accident.

Pierre Landry, 53, was found near a dock on Lac Lachaine.

“All indications are that an incident occurred on the lake and that Mr. Landry drowned on Friday evening,” police from MRC des Collines say.

“The exact circumstances are under investigation by our department in co-operation with the Office of the Coroner.”

There was no life jacket at the scene. Police say the man’s family described him as a strong swimmer.

Meanwhile, a 72-year-old Sherbrooke, Que., man narrowly escaped being killed when he had a medical crisis at the wheel and swerved off Highway 309 near Notre-Dame-de-la-Salette. His car hit some trees at high speed and rolled over, and the man needed to be cut from the wreckage. Police describe his injuries as serious but not life-threatening.
