A man is facing a charge of mischief after allegedly throwing a suspicious bag in front of the Peace Tower on Parliament Hill on Tuesday just after 11 a.m.
Items in the bag were deemed suspicious after a search by authorities, said Parliamentary Protective Service spokeswoman Melissa Rusk. A secured perimeter was established under the Peace Tower and the man was taken into custody.
The incident resulted in a brief evacuation of Centre Block, with all tours partially interrupted.
The package was deemed safe around 12:10 p.m. and the partial evacuation was lifted. Tours have since resumed.
