Dozen face charges after drug raids in Alfred

A dozen people in the Alfred area are facing a slew of mostly drug related charges after several raids took place at homes and businesses in the village east of Ottawa on April 12.

OPP officers from drug, canine and organized crime units, together with Hawkesbury OPP and Cornwall police, concluded a year-long investigation by laying more than 75 charges, both for possession and trafficking of illegal drugs. Among items seized when seven search warrants were executed were cocaine, cannabis, methamphetamine tablets, morphine, mushrooms, hydromorphone, contraband cigarettes, cellphones, cash and a firearm.

Facing drug charges are Jimmy Borris, 60, of Alfred, Paul Savage, 63, of Treadwell, Stephen Joy, 61, of Alfred, who was also hit with a firearms offence, Benoit Cousineau, 37, Alfred, Tara Lynn Moore, 36, of Alfred, Chantal Chretien, 45, of Treadwell, Lynne Bercier, 43, of Alfred, Genevieve Guerin, 33, of Grenville, Que., Philippe Gilbert, 25, of Alfred, and Douglas Roe, 68, of Alfred. Patrick Ethier, 24, of Ottawa, is charged with a probation breach.

Most of the accused have been released from custody.
