Federal office buildings in Gatineau are closed on Monday and Treasury Board has advised federal public servants who work in them or who use interprovincial bridges to get to work not to travel to their offices.
Treasury Board said in a news release Sunday that with flooding having forced evacuations and road closings in Gatineau that the priority is the safety and security of employees and those in the affected communities and the ability of emergency services to help those in need.
Gatineau Mayor Maxime Pedneaud-Jobin echoed the announcement, asking that all commuters who normally use the interprovincial bridges to stay home to limit traffic congestion and make it easier for flood operations. There would also be free rides on the city’s STO transit system, he said.
