The public school board says that its operations won’t be disrupted by a fire on a loading dock roof at the board’s Greenbank Road headquarters Wednesday night that’s now under investigation by the police arson unit.

Ottawa Fire Services got several 911 calls at 9:18 p.m. reporting heavy black smoke and flames visible on the roof of 133 Greenbank Rd.

A working fire was declared three minutes later and it was under control by 9:35 p.m.

A fire investigator was soon on the scene to determine the cause.

Marc Messier, a fire prevention and investigations officer, tweeted Thursday morning that it was an “intentionally-set fire” and there are “persons of interest” in the case.

A spokeswoman for the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board said that the small fire was contained and the building secured by 1:15 a.m. and facilities staff worked to have it ready for regular operations Thursday. The building is now ready for employees to go about their work, she said Thursday morning.

Fire crews tackled a second fire in the Billings Bridge area early Thursday morning.

They got a 911 call at 2:06 a.m. from the resident of a second-floor apartment in a home on Parkhill Circle reporting visible flames. A working fire was declared at 2:10 am. A second alarm was called at 2:33 a.m.

A fire investigator was called to the scene where police and gas and hydro workers were also on hand.

No one was injured in either fire. Dollar losses were not immediately available.
