A suspicious package that led to a hazardous-materials response by emergency services on Elgin Street on Saturday night was “examined and deemed not to be hazardous,” Ottawa Police Service reported late Sunday.
An OC Transpo driver who found the envelope on his bus, kicked it and then started to feel nauseous was examined and cleared medically, a police media release added.
“The matter has been concluded and there will be no further investigation,” the police statement said.
Ottawa police, fire and paramedics responded to a call about the envelope at about 9:15 p.m. Saturday. Emergency vehicles surrounded the bus, which was parked not far from the National War Memorial, and northbound Elgin Street was closed between the monument and Queen Street.
