Ottawa police officers seized a handgun and a small quantity of illicit drugs during a traffic stop on Tuesday morning.
According to police, a vehicle was stopped around 1 a.m. on Donald Street near St. Laurent Boulevard. While the officer was talking to the driver of the vehicle he began to suspect the man was under the influence of an illicit substance. He arrested the driver and the two passengers and while searching them and their vehicle he seized a loaded handgun, cash, marijuana and cocaine.
Charged with carless storage of a firearm, possession of a weapon, unauthorized possession of a prohibited firearm and a number of other offences is Hassan Ahmed, 26, Issack Egueh, 24, and Aayanle Obuli, 23, all from Ottawa.,
All three were to appear in an Ottawa court Tuesday.
Police used the occasion to remind the public that the Ottawa Police Service continues to be engaged in various gun violence suppression activities. Several investigations are ongoing. They are asking anyone with information that may help to get illegal guns off the streets to phone 613-236-1222, ext. 5050. Anonymous tips can be submitted by calling Crime Stoppers toll-free at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
