Somehow, everyone escaped unscathed Friday when a detached van wheel bounced around in traffic travelling in both directions on the Queensway.
Just after 11 a.m., a westbound commercial five-ton dual-axle cube van lost the front driver’s side wheel near the Parkdale exit, the OPP said in a media release. The wheel then struck an eastbound vehicle, which deployed its airbags upon impact. The wheel then ricocheted back over the median and landed on the windshield of another westbound vehicle.
“It was miraculous that no one was injured in this collision,” detachment commander Bob Wheeler said in the release.
A 31-year-old man was issued a court summons for operating an unsafe vehicle.
The OPP continued to investigate.
