Ottawa and Gatineau police laid a combined 244 charges for stop-sign violations and following drivers too closely in January.

The two police forces compiled the data to highlight the prevalence of traffic charges as a part of the Safer Roads Ottawa program.

In total in January, Ottawa saw 23 charges for following drivers too closely and 82 stop-sign violations. Drivers in Gatineau clocked in with 139 stop-sign violations — although there wasn’t a single charge of following drivers too closely.

Also participating in the Safer Roads Ottawa program are the RCMP, Sureté du Québec police, and the Department of National Defence’s military police.
