Ottawa police homicide detectives are on the hunt for a murder suspect after a man severely beaten in 2017 succumbed to his injuries just weeks ago.
Police issued a broadcast to all officers Thursday evening alerting them that the force now had grounds to arrest a Marco Michaud, 36, for second-degree murder.
Michaud is considered armed and dangerous.
Police began investigating what was originally an assault on July 18, 2017 on Selkirk Street when Gérald Leduc, 53, was allegedly beaten into a coma by Michaud.
Leduc remained in the coma for six months and died in hospital on Jan. 18.
Michaud is a convicted drug dealer with a lengthy criminal record dating back nearly two decades. He has also been convicted of drug possession, possessing a dangerous weapon, arson and robbery.
Police say not to approach Michaud and call them if he is spotted.
Michaud is described as Caucasian standing five-feet-four-inches(163cm) tall, and weighing 141 pounds.
More to come.
