Four people are displaced after Ottawa firefighters battled a basement fire in a multi-row unit in Alta Vista on Tuesday morning.
Ottawa Fire Services said a family of four called 911 at 8:42 a.m. to report “heavy smoke” in the basement of their 2862 Baycrest Dr. home, near Heron Road. Neighbours of the attached unit also called to report smoke in their basement.
Upon arrival, firefighters confirmed a “working fire” amid heavy smoke and began “a rapid offensive fire attack” from inside the home, quickly putting out the flames by 8:51 a.m.
Firefighters checked other units, and the blaze was under control around 9 a.m.
An investigator was on scene. The cause of the fire or extent of the damages was not known.
The Canadian Red Cross was on scene assisting the family of four, who will be relocated temporarily, as well as any neighbours affected. No injuries were reported.
