One Ottawa firefighter was discharged from hospital Tuesday while another remained sedated and intubated but with non-life threatening injuries after they plunged through a floor Monday while battling a house fire in Stittsville.
Fire Chief Gerry Pingitore tweeted out updates on the firefighters conditions Tuesday, calling the afternoon fire on Snowberry Way a “challenging event.”
“Snowberry FF Injury Update: 1 firefighter discharged yesterday. 2nd firefighter: Clarification: condition was serious but stable, w/ non-life-threatening injuries. Sedated & intubated to prevent airway fr swelling shut. Common precautionary medical measures. TY for your support,” Pingitore tweeted.

He also thanked the community for the outpouring of support for the injured firefighters and praised other first responders for “collaborating to quickly rescue & care for injured personnel.”
The two firefighters were injured when a floor collapsed as they tried to rescue a man inside the burning house at 24 Snowberry Way. The man was treated for smoke inhalation. There were no other injuries in the two-alarm fire, which caused an estimated $750,000 damage.
Investigators believe the fire started in the home’s electrical panel.
