The optional Battery Pack/Grip allow you to use AA size batteries, but it's an optional device. Take a look of its preview here: http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/nikoncp5700/ Check it's Pros & Cons. No digital camera is perfect, you should balance the Pros & Cons yourself. Personally, I prefer Nikon products.
