LRT delayed again, won't be ready by end of June
It’s driving the bosses at Ottawa City Hall crazy, and investors of the Confederation Line LRT builder, Rideau Transit Group (RTG), must be bitter that one of the company’s top subcontractors seems to be at the centre of the one-year-and-counting delay of the $2.1-billion transit project.
Mayor Jim Watson and councillors on the city’s finance and economic development committee heard Tuesday that RTG won’t hand over the LRT system to the city by June 30, as previously expected. The city has not yet identified a new handover date, since it gave RTG a two-week extension from the end of May to come up with a new one.
There are nine things the city has been monitoring in making sure the LRT system is ready.
City transportation general manager John Manconi said eight of those things are in good shape.
The ninth thing is no minor hiccup: the trains, as of Tuesday, still aren’t reliable.
