City police confirm that officers were called in to help right a wrong-way OC Transpo bus on Highway 174 early Tuesday morning.
They were summoned at 12:25 a.m. when the bus heading east on Montreal Road mistakenly took the westbound onramp to the highway, police said. The driver pulled over and called for help to get back on track safely.
There was no collision and no charges laid, police said.
An OC Transpo passenger raised the alarm about the incident.
“My bus just got on the highway going into oncoming traffic because the driver was ‘confused’ by detours,” Steven McGregor tweeted. “How does a bus go against all signage and go the wrong way on the highway!”
OC Transpo replied that the service was aware of the problem and was mobilizing supervisors and police to assist.
“I apologize for this and this will be investigated,” the unnamed transit staffer tweeted.
