550 crew members of USS Theodore Roosevelt have tested positive for Covid-19

There are 550 sailors from the USS Theodore Roosevelt who have tested positive for coronavirus as of Saturday, according to a statement from the US Navy.
So far, 92% of the sailors have been tested and 3,696 of them have now been moved ashore.

Some context: CNN reported on Thursday that a sailor from the USS Theodore Roosevelt who had tested positive for coronavirus was admitted to an intensive care unit in Guam after being found unresponsive.

France's flagship aircraft carrier the Charles de Gaulle, which has 50 confirmed coronavirus cases on board, will arrive in Toulon on Sunday afternoon and begin to quarantine personnel, according to the French Defense Ministry.

The crews of the aircraft carrier, the on-board air group -- helicopters, Hawkeye and Rafale surveillance planes -- and the accompanying warship Chevalier Paul will be confined for 14 days on military bases before returning home, the Defense Ministry said in a statement Sunday.

"The primary objective is to protect soldiers, their loved ones and our fellow citizens. Accommodation and food capacities will be set up at naval and naval air bases, to ensure the best reception for sailors in the quarantine," the ministry said in a statement.

The ministry said that screenings will be carried out in the containment zone before sailors return to their homes, and buildings and aircraft disinfected by specialized teams.

According to a previous Defense Ministry statement, the flagship carrier left France on January 21 and was in the Atlantic. A medical team arrived on board on April 8, according to the Defense Ministry.

A sailor who tested positive for Covid-19 on the USS Theodore Roosevelt has died from the virus, the US Navy said in a statement Monday.

The sailor was admitted to an intensive care unit in Guam on Thursday and died today, the Navy said.

As of Sunday, 585 sailors from the USS Theodore Roosevelt had tested positive for coronavirus, according to a statement from the US Navy. About 92% of the USS Theodore Roosevelt crewmembers have been tested for coronavirus, the statement said.

Some background: The commander of the Roosevelt was ousted earlier this month by the now former acting secretary of the Navy Thomas Modly for his “poor judgement," Modly said.

Captain Brett Crozier had written to Navy leadership flagging his concerns about the Roosevelt's crew of more than 4,000, alerting them to the challenges of trying to contain the disease aboard the ship and urgently requesting that sailors be allowed to quarantine on land.

"We are not at war. Sailors do not need to die. If we do not act now, we are failing to properly take care of our most trusted asset: our Sailors," Crozier wrote in a memo that three US defense officials confirmed to CNN.

纪德号船舰上载有350人，如今也正载着30多位确诊新冠病毒的人，要返回西雅图北方的埃弗里特，船员的亲朋好友都非常担心。海军官员全力防堵疫情爆发，不想让罗斯福号航空母舰的憾事重演。

前一天，官方才宣布确诊18例，不到24小时，数字就近乎翻倍。美国海军官员说，舰上一名有症状的水手，周四已经先撤离到圣安东尼奥的医疗机构，检测呈现病毒阳性反应。随后海军派出一支医疗队登上纪德舰进行检验与接触者追踪，之后也有另一名水手已经从船上撤离。

先前罗斯福号航空母舰上近五千人，共有至少840人确诊感染。美国海军表示，罗斯福号上所有人都已经检测完毕，阴性的有4098人，其中有几十位水手最初测试阴性，后来测出阳性。其中88人已经康复。

在关岛旅馆中隔离的水手，最近也透过影片向在旅馆支援的海军陆战队队员表示感谢。在旅馆里的水手都是检测阴性而且没有症状的，如果检测是阳性，则会被留在基地。
