BB is not a Best of Best in tech stocks, but certainly won't be " buy Nortel shares or buy beers". Around 11 am on Tuesday, when I noticed BB shares surged as much as 50%, I started doing some research to find out the reason. At the same time BB shares kept going up, at one point it soared as high as 65% increase., then started to cool down, closed at a gain of approx. 19% on Tuesday. I entered a small amount of my " playing money" at the last 5 minutes of the trading day, literally just for fun. On Wednesday, BB increased 5%-6% ( not sure the exact percentage) and went up some on Friday too.
Why did BB shares soar so much in just around 2 hours at the start of the trading day? The BB announce on Tuesday that it has teamed up with Amazon Web Services to develop a platform that helps automakers collect and analyze data from vehicle sensors. "The BlackBerry IVY system is a scalable software platform with deep roots in AWS cloud computing services. This vehicle data platform provides consistent and secure methods for gathering vehicle sensor information, packaging it into a normalized format, and preparing the data blobs for real-time analysis running on the car's own processors as well as deeper dives through AWS-based cloud computing services.
" This system provides a standardized tool kit for managing crucial data points such as vehicle sensor data, driver habits, and engine reliability readings. Automakers can then tap into the BlackBerry/AWS system to build their own custom vehicle software frameworks without reinventing the wheel for each new car model.
"This software platform promises to bring an era of invention to the in-vehicle experience and help create new applications, services, and opportunities without compromising safety, security, or customer privacy," BlackBerry CEO John Chen said in a prepared statement."
PS: I'm not a gambler, not even a trader. What I throw in BB shares increased 20% in 3 days. It seems no bad. However, because it is merely my"play money ", not in my investment portfolio, the total gains are not significant.
