<HTML>interesting. away from ottawa for one day there are some many finance people coming out. i am also working in this field. we should set up a mail list and exchange ideas about finance, economics, accounting, risk management... from my experience, getting a wide range of knowledge on different aspects of finance helps a lot for your career. passing cfa, cpa, cga and all the exams is only the first step in your finance career. nowadays, the finance profession has become so complicated that one certificate is definitely not enough. a forum with more information sharing would help everybody to get better perspective. i have some expertise in finance, economics, and risk management, but i don't know much about accounting , especially daily practice about accounting and auditing. why don't we set up a forum of finance professionals? i was thinking about setting up something like that in toronto since i thought there were nobody interested in ottawa except me, but obviously i was wrong. if you are interested, pls put a post here.</HTML>

<HTML>It seems one book club can not consume all your energy, and you need a finance professional club. I am interested in it. You are really great. Could you tell what kind of finance and economic experience you have?</HTML>

<HTML>If you have a mailing list, please including my email in it :) flying_angel001@yahoo.ca, Thanks. I was majoring in both accounting and finance. I worked in the finance field before. It was about swep contracts, forward contract, and a varity of headging financial products. I am currently working in the accounting field. Well, I am not an auditor, so, doesn't know much about public practice. Let's wait and see whether we could attract more people to join us :)</HTML>

<HTML>bear hand is what i want, fish is also what i want, if i can get both of them, why not? :)
brother riven, your idea is great. if we have a place for ourselves, i can even spread words to toronto and get people from there to join so that this website will become even more influencial. one thing: i don't like talking about stocks. i have learned too much about finance and economics to believe in stocks. there is a book called "irrational exuberance" by robert shiller. i recommend people who still believe in stocks to read it. to me, finance is not about gambling. nobody would listen to me 2 years ago, but i guess many will endorse my view now.
my backgraoud: ph.d. in economics, working at a bank as an economist, 10% of my time reading "xian2 shu1" (cite muranan), 90% time working on risk management and banking.
so we have the guest, the flying angel and shrek on the list now, anybody else? by the way, flying angel, your background seems interesting. i am sure we have a lot to talk about.</HTML>

<HTML>You're right shrek, non of stocks is trading at a "reasonable" price nowadays from fundamental analysis perspective. However, accept the fact there're still a lot of people making money from stocks, (more people losing money at stock market of course :) ) and risk itself is managable as long as you're aware of it. In my opinion, playing with stocks is not investment at all, rather it's a game you play with all other people in the market and those with enough funding, right strategy, rich information and displine won and will continue to win.</HTML>

<HTML>I'm a finance idiot, but I'd like to learn, can I join you?</HTML>

<HTML>1. JC, a forum is open to anybody, just like this bbs. but if you really want to enjoy the mysterious world of finance, i recommend you to take a cfa course and get the certificate. by the way, there are less than 10 people with cfa certificate in mainland china (according to sina). think about it.
2. klin, i agree. it's the game theory approach to explain what happened in the stock market and it makes sense to me.</HTML>

<HTML>"...by the way, there are less than 10 people with cfa certificate in mainland china (according to sina). think about it."

I read this on some Chinese newspaper as well. One thing I can't understand, is this CFA (certified financial analyst) a world recognised positon?

You can say there is no QC in China, but we do have lawers.</HTML>

<HTML>the cfa thing is recognized in hongkong, but there is no standard in mainland china now. however, just like people who are american cpa can get better jobs, this certificate simply works as a signal. it's likely that the authority in china will make something similiar to the cfa soon, since this is a huge money making business, just like gre and toefl. by the way, the deadline for registration this year has passed (dec 3), right?</HTML>

<HTML>Hi, Guys

<HTML>I have no problem to work with shrek. I prefer one forum only coz we don't have enough volume to justify a seperate thread yet.</HTML>

<HTML>Hey Shrek,

:arc: :arc:

:fire: :fire:

:kill:

</HTML>
