Contract usually means the employer is not confident enough to hire a perment staff either because of your capabilities or his own businese plan. For new immigrants, turn down a contract offer only if you're absolutely sure you're so competitive that you'll find a job within 3 months. Besides, you have good chance to be transfered to permanent positions if your performance is good and even it's impossible, you gain valuable North American work experience.

<HTML>Very good answer to the question. But it seems to me there is still another situation. It is just a pure "Constract" work. This happens in some consulting companies. They get a project and hire some professionals to get it done within a period of time. After it, everybody has to go. It almost has no chance for the contractor to lead to a perminet position. I hope I am adding valuable stuff to this question.

<HTML>You're absolutely right. That's another end of contract work, even better than permanent positions sometimes. However, you must have very good technical background, excellent communication skills and years of professional experience, which seems impossible for most new immigrants while communication skills is 80% equal to your language level here in Canada.
