<HTML>Contract is paid by hours without any benefit while permanent is paid on annual basis with some benefit like medical care and life insurance.

Contract usually means the employer is not confident enough to hire a perment staff either because of your capabilities or his own businese plan. For new immigrants, turn down a contract offer only if you're absolutely sure you're so competitive that you'll find a job within 3 months. Besides, you have good chance to be transfered to permanent positions if your performance is good and even it's impossible, you gain valuable North American work experience.

Good luck! </HTML>

<HTML>Very good answer to the question. But it seems to me there is still another situation. It is just a pure "Constract" work. This happens in some consulting companies. They get a project and hire some professionals to get it done within a period of time. After it, everybody has to go. It almost has no chance for the contractor to lead to a perminet position. I hope I am adding valuable stuff to this question.
Thank klin for your answering my post. </HTML>

<HTML>You're absolutely right. That's another end of contract work, even better than permanent positions sometimes. However, you must have very good technical background, excellent communication skills and years of professional experience, which seems impossible for most new immigrants while communication skills is 80% equal to your language level here in Canada.

<HTML>In terms of payment, there is no difference between contract and permanent. Both are paid by working hours. The major difference
between two is taxation. Contract workers can claim part of their
expenses, like gas, housing, phone bill, from their income tax, while
for permanent employee, there's so such benefit.Nomally, employer
don't have the obligation to buy insurance(life and others) for contract workers, while they have to provide it for permanent employees. Other difference are case-by-case.

<HTML>Nice to know. What you the tax benefit for a contractor? You mean a contractor can deduct gas, phone bill from his income when doiong tax return, even he don't have a company by his name? I know you have a company, you definitly can do that.
But anyway it is nice discussion for new immmigrants like me.</HTML>

<HTML>>What you the tax benefit for a contractor?
I can't tell you what percentage you can claim. But you can find it out at Revenue Canada's website.

The assumption here you have to have income before you can deduct
cost(associated with your business) from your income tax. Simply registering a company doesn't grant you such benefit.
Moreover, the law has changed, it has become harder and harder
to claim tax from your income.</HTML>

一个是合同工,另外一个是长工。

一个是合同工,另外一个是长工。
长工下岗可以拿package,ei,合同工没有。合同工不用交ei,合同工有自己公司,合同工可以抵达克一些费用

the key difference is that contractors have no benefits...the rest all depends on each position, some are paid by salary while others are paid by wages.
合同工,工资往往高呢。
