Weird, it's 2004 and they are talking about something 2-3 years ago.
The incoming didn't go up, the living cost certainly went up.
For someone making just over 20k/year, $300 preimum is 1.5% of the his incoming before tax, 2-2.5% after tax, and more likely 5-8% of his "free money" after paying rent, food, insurance, etc.
$300 isn't that small a number at all.

No, certainly $300 is not a small number. I hate Liberty too, they just backed out their words. We are just talking income, not something like a 600CAD health tax. Canada is a good place, it is not right to expect a consumer price of that in China or even poorer countries in a developed country. I agree, living cost has gone up, my salary increase for the last few years has been worn down to almost nothing due to the increasing living cost. If we are going to fight against high rising living costs, we need to take action.

Canada is among the richest countries, but not as rich as the 2nd. Xiaomimi is talking about that news of "Australia being the first one, and Canada being the second one". To me that is only a joke or a way for some politicians boasting about their achievements.

It's a common knowledge that Canada is the second richest country in terms of standard of living. No. 1 is USA.
I have lived in both Canada and USA. I felt US is about 10 ~ 20% richer than Canada. While Western European countries are 50% less wealthy than US.

加拿大还是算个富国的。我问过一些在欧洲工作生活过的朋友，做工程师的话，欧洲的大国（２０ｍ以上的人口）里大约只有德国比这里收入高生活水平也高，而这两年德国也不大行了。在Ｇ８（那可是大一点国家的富国俱乐部）里面，加拿大排前一半可能没问题吧（我只说实际购买力），你看看多仑多不是得２６万的家庭收入才能派前１０％？这个收入住ＳＩＮＧＬＥ，开ＢＥＮＺ没问题吧？关键是多仑多不是啥小地方，那可是加拿大人最多的地方。中国这二十来年的发展已经算是全球奇迹了，但再过二十年我看上海也不见得能有１０％的人达到这个水平。
可惜我们在加拿大是穷人！

那些国家都太小，人家也大都不要移民。这里说的都是有几千万人口的国家。如果那些百十万人口的小国都算，美国可能前１０位都排不上。

恐怕只是北美的common knowlesge吧,欧洲.尤其是北欧的国家恐怕不同意这样的common knowlesge.
美国从来都认为老子天下第一,加拿大要谦虚一些,认为自己是天下第二.
