这个有问题,日本应该比加拿大高吧。不过我还是相信加拿大的生活水平超过日本。

I didn't make them up, man. Japan's per capita GDP (25,130) was lower than Canada's (27,130) in 2001. Those were the latest official numbers I could find on UN website.

Have you ever lived in western Europe? If not, pls don't say so. Though I don't like Europe, the countries there are very rich though.

I was sent to Nortel Harlow location for 2 months. I can tell you British standard of living is much lower than here. And Britain has the most dynamic economy in Europe.

Many British engineers came to work for a short period at Skyline too. Although they complained about the snow, they do not want to go back and try to stay in Ottawa as permanent.

Weird, it's 2004 and they are talking about something 2-3 years ago.

The incoming didn't go up, the living cost certainly went up.

For someone making just over 20k/year, $300 preimum is 1.5% of the his incoming before tax, 2-2.5% after tax, and more likely 5-8% of his "free money" after paying rent, food, insurance, etc.

$300 isn't that small a number at all.

You said it!

The good news is that the CTF had filed a lawsuit against the McGinty government for breaking the Taxpayers Protection Act. We'll see how that goes.

You want to rely on those lawyers? They are as filthy as those politicians. I'd be most surprised if they can do something this time. 10M bribe will be enough to take them.

I have never been to Great Britian though. I can not use my own experience. But one of my friends came from there. He is now in toronto. He said the tax rate in Great Britian was lower than Canada. And according to what I know from him, living standard was comparable to here. Though not 100% sure. Well, but that can not explain why he came here.

That's too cynical. We have to keep a positive attitude, otherwise how would you face this world everyday? Why bother getting up in the morning? :)

Did your friend include the 12% (?) National Health Insurance in his calculation ?

Canadian tax is "higher" because public medicare is covered through general income tax. You have very little out-of-pocket medical expense after that.

If you inlcuded medical premium, co-payment, deduction, even the Americans may not have a lower tax load than Canada.

Well, then let's wait and see. Anyway, I am not a citizen. I should have asked my friends to vote for Conservative. Most of them contributed to the tax hike.

You are right to some extent, let's hope for the best.

Oh, Idont' know about that. I am wrong then. But this guy just told me about the income tax rate. I kinda of thinking this is lower than that of Canada.

这个表和大家的印象差不多,也和我那几个在欧洲工作过的伙计的说法相符。大家就别挑了,北美除了天冷点,上班远点,犯罪率高点,别的还是不错的,大家抓紧时间挣钱才是要紧的!

The exact same ranking (UN Human Development Index) had ranked Canada No. 1 for 7 years before 2001.

Life in Europe is similar to third world: live in apartment, take bus to work.

Life in Canada is similar to US live in single house, and drive your OWN car to work.

房子大 ==生活质量高?
住公寓, 坐汽车==发展中国家?
