I was talking about tax deduction, like RRSP, donation etc, not some "small business". Plus, deduct tax by doing "small business" is also legal here.

Pure tax rate doesn't mean anything. In China you have lots of other "donations" to the government.

let us say, your total income is $70,000, your taxable income is $50,000 . You paid $15,00 on TAX, you can't say your tax rate is only 21% coming from 15,000/70,000!

There is a somewhat "incorrect" impression that Canadian tax is high.

True, Canadian income tax is high, but there are fewer other tax/premium than other countries.

When asked, I usually say this: "when social security and medicare premium are included, Canada and US have about the same tax rate on income. Canadian sales tax doubles the US - but when you are out of a job, your medical is still covered".

I don't have too many problems with Canadian tax, I came to US because of Canadian dollars, not Canadian taxes.

I am not smart, but I am not stupid enough to mix that up either. The number is coming from the CCRA tax return report. I paid less than 12K tax in total(after tax return), and my taxable income is higher and 56K(after all deduction including RRSP, donations etc). I believe this resolves your issue
