The following is my advice to my friend, I think you would be interested:
A good tripod is so essential to successful field photography that I'm tempted to call it a NECESSITY rather than an ACCESSORY.
GITZO1224+KIRK BH-3, the 1228 is so light that it blows around in the slightest breeze.
And I would avoid extending the centrepost. because...,cranking up the centrepost, rather than using leg extensions, is a sure way to get unsharp pics, U no longer are using a tripod, but rather a monopod with a three-legged base attached. I would like to use my tripod w/o centrepost. and I don't miss this feature at all.

And there are something special for you: Flash X-Tender by Walt Anderson,"L" Brackets from Really Right Stuff,KIRK Window Mount,The Wimberley Head.If you want to be a pure field guy

You know that I am becoming a photographer, meanwhile, I am becoming poorer and poorer. I have to spend the money by priority. I will upgrade my tele-lens first which I use the most.

For the wildlife photography I have my own ideas. I try to capture the wild animals pictures just like taking the pictures of people. The most important is to capture the moment rather than the composition, lighting, texture, ............ So I hardly use a tripod (I have no too big, heavy lens to hand-hold.) The softness (unsharpness) is mainly due to the lens, (compress too hard) .......

We see the big advantage to use a DSLR to take the wildlife picture, but we also see the disadvantage to use a DSLR to take the landscape picture (compared with a FC).

Thanks for the advice (I may want to buy BH-1 instead of BH-3 when I have the money. )
