I disagree with your "under US protection" view. I think the Bush administration's current foreign policies are in fact a major contributor to global instability, and that those policies will put Americans at greater risk of terrorist attacks.

To respond to your "under US protection" and the implicit "we live in peace because of US" view, I'll quote a famous passage from Col. Jessup played by Jack Nicholson in the Movie "A Few Good Men", which I believe pretty much summarizes what Pro-Bushers think:

Jack Nicholson (Col. Jessup): Son, we live in a world that has walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with guns. Whose gonna do it? You? You, Lt. Weinburg? I have more responsibility here than you could possibly fathom. You weep for Santiago, and you curse the marines. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know. That Santiago's death, while tragic, probably saved lives. And that my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, saves lives. I know deep down in places you dont talk about at parties, you don't want me on that wall, you need me on that wall. We use words like honor, code, loyalty. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punchline. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom I provide, then question the manner in which I provide it. When CNN's John King asked Bush "whether you feel more free to do any one thing in a second term that perhaps you were politically constrained from doing in a first." Bush replied: "...Let me put it to you this way: I earned capital in the campaign, political capital, and now I intend to spend it. It is my style. That's what happened in the -- after the 2000 election, I earned some capital. I've earned capital in this election -- and I'm going to spend it for what I told the people I'd spend it on..."

With the Congress and Senate in Republican hands, Mike Allen writes in The Washington Post: "The message was unmistakable: that Bush intends to be the capital's dominant political and policy force, and that the election returns mean that other players should move to accommodate his priorities, not simply meet in the middle."

同样劳动，在美国可以得到比其他国家多的多的报酬。

美国人，一不比人家勤劳，二不比人家聪明，三来自己问题多多，凭那般这么待遇优厚呢！这当然也是大家都想来美国的根本原因。一个人在国内赚Y1000一个月，往往在美国可以赚$2000一个月。美国不可能愿意和其他国家平等相处，不然长期以往生活水平会拉平，所以一定要弄出一些名堂，以维护自己特殊地位。

这次大选，布什为什么能抓住南部，中西部人民？很多文章分析是宗教，保守风气等等。这些说法很对。但这仍然是表面现象, 经济才是根本原因。便是十字军东征，宗教旗号下面，根本就是为了经济掠夺。

但是为什么东西两边高文明，发达地区反对布什呢？他们也是美国特权利益的受益人。问题就在，他们比较有眼光，对世界比较了解，知道从长远处着眼，知道同情其他国家人民也符合美国人民长远利益。另外一个原因是，他们比较有自信，有能力，不怕在较大的合理公平的激烈竞争情况下谋生，生存。而保守带人民正好相反，虽然工资不高，但房价等要低的多，日子可能反而要自在逍遥的多，而同时，向外部竞争的能力、胆略，要小的多，所以他们不愿意投入同外部(国)残酷的生存竞争中去，那样他们很容易被淘汰。因此他们更赞成不惜代价推行，巩固美国的国际特殊地位。所谓宗教、保守与否，不过是个外表标签，成为划分敌我、站队的极佳标记，并非真正的核心内容。说到底，都是为了保住美国的特殊富裕地位。

布什代表的大石油公司，大军火集团虽然和这些小百姓不可同日而语，但水涨船高，小百姓可以沾光。

Stability is relative. Short term, we can see there are several regional wars, but in the long run, this kind of quick-fix wars can drastically slow down the development of hostile nations' WMD, as a result, it brings stability to the whole civilized world.

History has told people many times, compromise won't bring peace. There are always groups of people who don't accept the current civilization and want to bring their way of life to the whole world in a very brutal way.

Think about Canada has to have an army of 1,000,000 people, will we have the same life style?

Americans work much harder and longer hours than Canadian. It's the difference of lifestyle. One is to say which one is better? I am not too fond of the word "勤劳"...
