1. Go there three times a day, 7 days a week. ( More time, more chance, more shooting, more pics )

2. AI Serve AF mode,

3. Center partial metering,

4. Contunie shooting mode,

5. Not too slow shutter speed,

6. Hands hold.

7. Focus on the bird & ready for shooting all the time.

8. Close to the bird ASAP.

9. Love the bird, know the bird.

Gang: I have doubt on item 1: I thought rather than go there 3 times a day, you basically camp there.

Seriously, thanks very much for sharing the tricks. For 3, I assume you meant center focus point+ partial metering. The 10% spot is indeed too fat and in many cases when I'm not close enough and the owl is small in the frame, I had serious under exposure.

Don't how long the owl will stay ...

I was thinking of going there around 4pm and then the snow starts. Propably tomorrow.

Excellent shot. How do you manage to get this close ? Used TC also ?

Hm, with 400 mm lens, you can get such a tight face shot. It has to be within a meter distance, I think.

Thanks, startrack. You are definitely right. The DOF is too small for #95.

Thanks, fad. It was not about 1 meter away (min for focus 1.8 m), maybe 2--3 m, the picture was cropped from the original.
