Anyone here has a Macro Lens? Would you mind to share your hands on experience of your macro lens?

I am thinking of buying a macro lens. I have locked down to three lenses:
1> Canon EF-S 60mm F/2.8
2> Sigma 105mm f2.8 EX DG Macro
3> Canon EF 100mm F/2.8 Macro <added from a suggestion> :)

Do you have any suggestions, DXs?

Thanks in advance!

Why not Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 ?

I third 100/2.8. Makes an excellent portrait lens too.

Thanks! I am now seriously considering this lens as everyone suggested.

Anyone out there owns one Macro, please share some info??

没舍得专买macro的lens.
不过100真的不错,拍人像绝顶。

我试过sigma和nikon的macro lens, 对焦都会拉风箱, canon的也是这样吗?

yes. even with USM. It is the nature of Macro lenses. I would not worry much about the AF part, since I always try to use MF.

yeah, I have seen the works done by 100mm. It is a really sharp and contrasty lens. However, for portrait, some people are saying the sharpness is so much that it will also show unwanted details. :-D

Nevertheless, I think 100mm is a great lens from reviews I have seen in the net. Most owners believe it deserves a "L" ring.

The reason I wanted to by a Macro lens is I need a razor sharp lens for my dpchallenges contests. I have found most winners of nearly all contests have used a very sharp lens for their works. and the most used lens is Sigma 105mm. Besides, I need a fast portrait lens for indoor/sport photos. I don't believe any zoom lens is any sharper than my existing 4Ls, therefore I am going for a prime this time.

To me, if there is no compatible issues with sigma, I'd really love to buy its 105 macro. Since it has been reviewed with highest possible ratings everywhere. It is as good as 100m optically, but cheaper and comes with 1 lens hood, also its 7 years warranty... It has better looking too. :D

I guess I will choosing between 100mm and 105mm.

Xterra: just want to remind you that 100/2.8 is slow in terms of focus. It should be good for portrait on still subjects but propably not so good for moving stuff and sports.

You might also look into 85/1.8 + extension tubes.

买个CANON 500D, 便宜又好用. 接在我的XZP上非常不错.
