Specific Admission Requirements
Bachelor of fine arts (BFA) - 120 credits
NEW:
Applications for admission must be submitted before April 1st.
Admission to the Bachelor of fine arts is by competition. This competition comprises a written statement of interest, the presentation of a portfolio and an interview.
Your statement of interest should not exceed one page and should reflect your interest in visual arts. For example, appropriate topics might include such questions as what led you to choose visual arts, what you hope to achieve in this program, what you consider to be your most important achievements so far, and what interests you pursue outside of the visual arts. In addition, feel free to discuss specific works of art, media artwork, literature, films or music for which you have ? or have had ? a particular interest.
Your portfolio should include 10-20 works. It can comprise a range of media and should reflect your interests and accomplishments. It should also include preparatory works such as studies and sketches, as well as journals, sketchbooks or prototypes. It is not necessary to matte or frame works. Slides, photographs or a video of works that cannot be included in your portfolio because of their size or nature are acceptable substitutes.
The portfolio is brought to the interview. Interviews are held at the Department of visual arts during the month of April. Although the interview is obviously a very important part of the admission process, if for compelling reasons you are unable to attend, please notify the department and send a well-documented portfolio that includes explanations or descriptions of your work.
