What can we do for those precious young kids?

I'm very sadden that 2 precious young lives are gone this way and I can only imagine what their parents are going through. I have been asking myself recently, what can I do for those new comers? Maybe I can become a volunteer, give those new comers some help when they first come to town, maybe take them to their first shopping trip, show them around. Maybe I can simply offer them a shoulder to cry when they miss their parents, home sick whatever.
Does anyone know if there is such organization to help the new comers?

I already offered but haven't been assigned any job yet. It seems some people are organizing it, along with the people from the Embassy. I doubt they need shopping trip, but they may need a ride somewhere, need somebody to go get them a warm meal, a soup, or buy a toothbrush, that kind of things. I also offered to bring them winter coats, meals, help them buy insurance if they haven't done so, offered rides, etc.

I think there must be hundreds of people who are like you, who have offered help. If they need anything, I am sure anybody around them will be quick to help or to dispatch volunteers. Just wait for their request if you have already 报名.

Because I have participated in many Chinese activities and performances, I have known many young Chinese students in Ottawa. If we want to help, we don't need to wait for some organizations to assign us some students. That way, we have to wait for a long time. We can do this by ourselves.

I have given students ride and invited them to come for dinner in my house both in the States and Canada. I think both the current and new students need help. Recently, my friend in Toronto asked me to take care of her friend's daughter in Ottawa. I always know the current students. Through them, we can get to know a lot more.

For the new students, I can contact the chairman of Chinese students union of universities and get updated information of new students.

Hello Blade and friends, that's what I would like to do to get involved with Chinese students union of universities and offer some help to new students and whoever need help. I have teenage at home and I know how sensitive & vulnerable they're at this critical age. I still remember how much it was appreciated and needed when someone gave me a helping hand many years ago. It's really sad to read that some of those new comers don't even know how to cook for themselves. If I can be any help for them to adopt this new environment, I will be more than happy to do so and I hope they're more settled Chinese to help those new comers too.
I will be at tonight's ceremony to say goodbye and show that I care.
