OFF CAMPUS WORK PROGRAM FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS
The International Office wishes to inform you that Citizenship and Immigration Canada launched officially on April 28, 2006, the Off-Campus Work Program for international students.
In Ontario, the program will be effective as of June 1st 2006.
Please note the following important information regarding the Program:
Fall and Winter Semesters
Undergraduate full-time students are eligible to work off-campus for a maximum of 20 hours per week.
Graduate full-time students are eligible to work on and off-campus for a maximum of 10 hours per week. (i.e.: An international graduate student pursuing his studies towards a Master’s degree who is working on-campus for 10 hours per week as a TA can not hold another position on or off-campus. S/he is limited to 10 hours per week of none related work to his/hers thesis or research work.)
Spring/Summer Semester
Undergraduate students registered full-time at uOttawa during the academic year but not during Spring/Summer semester are eligible to full-time work off-campus (average full time is 35-40 hours per week).
Graduate full-time students are eligible to work on and off-campus for a maximum of 10 hours per week. (i.e.: An international graduate student pursuing his studies towards a Master’s degree who is working on-campus for 10 hours per week as a TA can not hold another position on or off-campus. S/he is limited to 10 hours per week of none related work to his/hers thesis or research work.)
To qualify for the Program you need to apply for a work permit and fulfill the following 2 requirements:
Being registered full-time for at least 6 months during the last 12 months
Maintaining a good academic standard (no probation allowed).
As of June 1st, 2006, the International Office will accept to certify your verification forms and necessary documents for your application process.
The work permit application needs to be completed with a list of documents which is available here and $150 application fees payable at any chartered bank with the Receipt IMM-5401. You will be able to send your application as soon as the International Office approves it.
