I did it before.
1) It is very safe for you drive it alone.
2) Most place snow already melted at early May. You don’t need snow tire.
3) Get your car checked and change oil before you leave. Check engine oil every day, I found highway driving burn oil faster than local driving. You may lose l litre oil per day.
4) Drive about 8 to 10 hour per day. Take a nap after lunch helped a lot. Stop and take a rest if you are tired. You don’t need to follow plan 100 percent. There are motels alone the way everywhere.
5) You can stay at Calgary, Regina, Winnipeg, Thunderbay, select a small town between sault ste marie and Sudbury , finally Ottawa. It takes 6 days, about 8 hours driving per day.
6) At most place the highway has only two lanes. You have to pass using opposite lane; it is dangerous especially you carry lot of things in your car. So be patient.
7) Buy CAA member ship, you will have free travel guide and map. They are very good
