Police identify the two brothers killed in crash

By Tom Spears , The Ottawa CitizenJanuary 30, 2009

OTTAWA — Two brothers killed in a car crash early Thursday are remembered by a neighbour as wonderful young men, one of whom had just become a father.
Ottawa police identified the two men as Senad, 31 and Hakija Dzinic, 25 of Gatineau. They died Thursday morning when the car they were in lost control on Lester Road and slid into oncoming traffic.
Former neighbour Isabelle Houde has known the Dzinic family for many years, since they were close neighbours on rue Lanctot in the Mont-Bleu area of Gatineau.
She learned the news Friday morning and was devastated.
“The sister of Senad’s wife phoned me,” she said. “The wife is overwhelmed by the loss of her husband. Senad was married, but not Hakija,” the younger brother, she said. “Hakija lived with his girlfriend."
She said Senad and his wife "have a little baby together. A beautiful little boy. He’s barely three months old. They were planning to buy a house, maybe in two years. They were organizing their life, they had beautiful plans for living. They were really good people. It’s really sad.”
She said the family had come from the former Yugoslavia many years ago.
Const. Wally Mcilquham said it appears the brothers were travelling east in a Honda on Lester Road near Albion Road when the driver lost control on ice. The car, which appears to have been going under the posted 80 km/h speed limit, fishtailed and crossed into the oncoming lanes where it was struck on the passenger door by a Jeep.
Anyone who witnessed the accident is asked to contact the Ottawa police collision investigation section at 613-236-1222, ext. 2481.
