今天送车去检查,被告知要换power steering pump (Civic, 2000), 零件费$358。 因为以前在那里换过整套的brake,他们的收费和Canadian Tire持平,对他们有了一定的信任,自以为他们不会在零件价格上行骗,当时在电话里就同意了,但同时我问了要换的牌子,被告知beco.

放下电话,上网google,没有找到那个牌子,但是找到了cardone适用于2000 Honda Civic 的pump,竟然最高型号的价格是$220,便宜的型号只要$172. 立即打电话给修车店(两次电话间隔时间为15钟,他们记录了第一次通话的准确时间),再次询问pump价格(我先没有提我搜索的牌子,只说358的价格和我查到的差很多), 对方早有准备,立刻称刚才报错牌子了,他们的牌子应该是cardone(只能说太巧了),价格还是$358。

我说我不换了,对方立时翻脸要收我1.5小时的人工费,声称检查时间也要计费。 我只同意支付20分钟费用,也就是两次电话间隔时间(检查前,他们没有通知我要收检查费),然后他们声称旧pump已经拆卸,装回原样也要10分钟,而且机器肯定不能够回到以前的状态(形同勒索,不在我这修,我让你开不走),同时声称他们突然间也找到了$172的价格,只是多等2天,才能到货。软硬兼施,逼我就范。

TNND,我今天就是开半路,汽车失控了,也绝不能让她们挣这黑心钱。 最后我支付了他们30分钟的人工!

$50买来个教训:以后决不能单纯相信修车商提供的配件价格,$220 和 $358 实在是差的太离谱!

他们毕竟没有黑到破坏我车的程度,我也安全到家了,具体店名不提也罢。 大家吸取个教训,别单纯相信修车商提供的配件价格也就是了。
 
网上购物价格,普遍便宜。

我曾换过一个取暖锅炉上的MODULE。同一个型号的部件,网上的价格是$150-220,锅炉修理维护公司收了$320。当然,工钱另算,再加税。没有办法,不能挨冻几天,等那个部件,只好认了。
 
问题是他们后来很快承认也能够买到我网上的价格,而且是$172那个型号(证明最低的型号就能用,$172 : $358),从后来的对话来看,他们根本是有准备,这末干不是头一回了。 而且汽车配件在北美,网上的零售价格可能比修车店拿到的价格要高些。 总之,我的不快是由于自己的轻信(此人还曾经是朋友推荐的)。
 
It is very common in Service Industry like (Auto repaire, Furnace Repair, Home renovation) that service guy charges replacement part more than "online" price, because only very few customer know how to get online price and how to install and fix.

I used to ask one Furnace guy checking my furnace, he said my thermostas didn't funciton well (yes, it was >9 years old), I agreed to let you to find new thermostat. He got it and it looks like new. I searched it is no longer available in local market. It is available on EBay. The similar function of this item in Home depot is $20 cheaper than his quote. I don't bother to buy online and let him installed for me and verified working. Because I buy online, if anything goes wrong, it is very difficult to claim whose responsibility is. Just let furnace guy to get $20 extra, which is not a big deal for me.

No offensive, parts business is a grey area. Both consumer and service provider need to find a balance point that service guy "can" charge certain percentage higher than "online" part seller, but not that such to turn part selling into main profit source.
 
It is very common, nothing new. They can't order it online, they order it from a wholesaler who would deliver the parts at same day. The wholesaler put 30 to 50% on top , then the garage put another 30%. It is part of their profit.
Some online parts is cheap, but do you want wait a week for that part to arrive.

Agree to accept some reasonable profits of the parts! But charging more than 100% can not be accepted by anyone because nobody wants to be fooled.

Anyway, what I want is just to remind you not to easily trust those guys.

The wholesaler put 30 to 50% on top , then the garage put another 30%. It is part of their profit.

If each mechanic working in this field ran business in this way, I am really surprised. 30% is OK, but over 100% is cheating.

我记得四五年以前网上有个争论,也是有人在BRONSON路上的一个华人车行被黑过。那次是花四百多刀换了BRAKE,结果根本不是毛病所在,车刚开出车行几步轴断裂,车报废。那才叫被黑。

你这个CASE根本不叫“黑”,是正常收费。因为你同意了,车行人工费已经花出。车行价格高于网上价格很正常, DOW-HONGDA的PART比网上价格高的更是离谱。你嫌价格太贵改主意是你的RIGHT,但别人在你授权下花出的人工费总得付呀。我也看到“文学城”“CFC”很多人抱怨类似的事情,在正规车行如果你授权由改主意的话,一般是按全额LABOUR-COST收费的,也没有看到谁说不合理。
 
也听过有人抱怨,做中国人的生意难度大。
