Strongly support you to seek professional help, rather than to "be the doctor of yourself".
When you book an appointment with 心理医生, they will advise you :
a. it's not covered by OHIP, therefore you need to provide your own credit card number upfront.
b. the hourly rate of the 心理医生 (~$200, if remembered correctly)
c. how many hour each appointment is (usually 1 hour each time)
d. how many appointment is needed minimul to be effective (usaully at least 2)
e. how much notice (usually 48 hours) is required to cancel a booked appointment
If they did not proactively tell you, you call ask them, they will explain to you right away.
Insurance usually covers 80% of the costs of a licensed 心理医生 up to an anually minimum. When make your claim, the insurance company will ask you to provide the details of the 心理医生 (full name, tel#, address etc) so they can valid the 心理医生's license. The insurance will NOT ask you the reason why you visited 心理医生, it is your own privacy that you do not have to tell anyone. I am not sure if 牛江河 licensed, you can ask her (a lady). If not licensed, then insurance will not cover.
Another measure of professional help is counselling. A councellor is not a medical doctor, but received training to help people. Their approach is different than 心理医生. 心理医生 would address the probelm from 心理/innate personility angle, and suggest behaveral remedies. A councellor would address the problem from social/interpersonal angle, and provide practical life advice. Both 心理医生 & councellor ARE helpful.
Councelly costs are not covered by OHIP or insurance, but is often included in the employer's free EAP (employee assistance plan, check your employee manual). If you do not have EAP, then many religious and social entities provide it for free to lower income or unemployed. Kanata United Church is one of them. Check out their web site or Kanata Kareer Talk's web site (google it). Northern Light (goverment funded employment agency) can also provide free referral to goverment funded programs, check it out with their consultants.
