French vs English School

This is my own opinion based on my experience, if parents do not understand French, then don't bother sending your kids to a french school, both you and your kids will suffer big time. Education requires lots of interaction between parents and school, you must keep in mind that communication is done mainly in french, be it homework, agenda, events, volunteer work, etc. if you can't help your kids cope with new language, you are only discouraging him/her in studies and in social life.

Of course rules are not carved in stone, you can always talk school out and they'll admit your kids to french program. To me, ranking does not play as bigger role in determining a child's future, especially in elementary schools, but rather we should look at how comfortable and at ease your kids are at the school, that the school offers a safe and clean environment and that the teachers and staff are caring and unbiased, that, to me, is the top school to die for..

关于学校排名

我曾与当地人谈起学校排名之事, THEY ASKED ME WHERE I GOT THE INFO., I SAID FRASER ...INSTITUTE, THEY TOLD ME THEY REALY THINK IT IS NOT TRUSTABLE INFO., THEY THINK IT IS TOO CONSERVATIVE.

说得很有道理!SUPPORT对孩子来说是很重要的;自己都不懂法语(尤其是ACADEMIC)就把孩子扔给法语学校,和让孩子放任自流有什么不同? 当父母的真是不容易啊 我们只说英文,不是一样地找到了工作?有时候觉得孩子好可怜啊,LIVE PARENT'S DREAM

打算在渥村长久待下去的话，特别是想进政府干活，你还非得让你孩子读法文不可（中文读不读就算了，中国人不能跟法裔人比，没有language right...)

本来我挺喜欢学语言的，但现在我学法语就感觉像是在被强奸。刚刚又收到invitation to reply a position in the government. 一看，不出所料， 又是bilingual的。。。

我插一嘴。不知道对不对。
去政府工作的话，应该level B就可以了。所以，要求是能说就行了吧。
Level C才有comprehension什么的吧。
而且，进政府后，应该提供有法语培训啊。所以，不是要求好的不得了的吧。

另外，我朋友的小孩也送法语学校，两个人一句法语都不懂。我觉得好像没困惑他们什么。不过，我也不清楚。我基本以我家宝贝会说中文和英文为主。但是，偶也不否认，偶要送偶家贝贝9月去的program是双语的，一个班级3个老师，一个教英文，一个教法语。但是，效果如何，我也不知道。反正，我看班级里的小朋友都说英文。因为，学校里同年级的，另外还有一个法语班，但见他们全说法语。

还有，在加拿大或者渥太华，不需要法语的工作远比需要法语的多。我的土生白人老板都太会法语，偶尔需要用法语时，他借助法语翻译软件或者请翻译职位的人翻译而已。

Anyways, the catholic school my son's going to is french immersion, I think that's good enough. Look, we can't guanrantee our kids will attend university or stay in Ottawa or get a job in the government.... If that's the case, French isn't that important. Of course, the more languages you know, the better, not just french, agree?

晕！ 我是讽刺的说话来说明这语言制度的不公平。

你不知道吗，现在进政府基本都要法语？ 这不是逼着别人学法语吗？

我是挺佩服法裔人跟英裔人斗的精神。但结果就是不公平，特别是对其他种族的人来说。

中国人连争取自己语言权力的意识都没有。

进政府未必需要讲法语，多数政府职位不需要法语。

而且，只在英文学校学法语就足够应付大部分分需要法语的职位，完全不需要硬把孩子往法语学校里塞。

孩子无法和父母交流在学校学的东西，无法充分分享在学校的趣事，多么无趣。父母不能和学校用法语交流，这对孩子来说也是让他们无法感到骄傲的事。孩子的心理成长远比学会法语重要的多。

我们还是不要有意无意地夸大法语的作用，为法语宣传造势了。更不要去追捧法语。一方面觉得法语过于强势，一方面又盲目追捧法语，岂不是助长这种强势。

Grade 7 and 8

Lots of elementary school offer only grade 1 to 6, can kids freely choose where to go for grade 7 and 8 ? Or you have to go further to the school bonded with where you graduated ?

French is a nice to have thing to us. A good teacher is the thing to fight for...

目前，将来政府工看来都是最好福利，最保障的工作，懂法文更容易获得政府工，懂法文更容易升职，也只有懂法文，才能升到更高的位置。当然懂法文，在政府工作退休后可以在法国美滋滋地生活。所有这些的前提，就是必须先懂法文。哈哈...

真够可悲的。我可不想女儿这样。学习语言是一种技能，跟开车一样。语言也是了解文化的一扇门。听起来有点理想化，但我真是这么想的。

单纯为了找个稳定的工作大可不必这样，还有很多条路可以走。女儿今后在哪儿工作也不一样呢。这样想太局限性了。
