ottawa的gifted program

妈妈们，听说ottawa的gifted class 将减少，原因是没有人想上。有上gifted class的孩子妈妈给点建议，孩子要上高中，buzhi不知该不该上giftedclass。谢谢！

"原因是没有人想上",不太知道有这回事,为什么不想上呀?

孩子各有不同,有的孩子接受能力慢些,有的孩子接受能力快些.如果仅仅是按年龄安排
不同水平的孩子在一起上课,还是有些弊病的.所以我想包括gifted program在内的
special education是个很好的补充.

如果你的孩子通过了gifted program的考试,为什么不去上呢? 即使后来不喜欢,还可
以回到普通班呀. 大多数gifted students会觉得普通班学的太慢,没意思.对于高中生
来说,keep them busy,家长在孩子其他方面会少些麻烦.

They don't offer CCAT gifted screening test anymore at Grade 3, so if your child is really bright, then the school can recommend them to the CCAT test, or you do it through psychologist. Since no screening test offered, the less and less children are identified as a gifted student.

The school board cut the gifted class is because the money not because not enough gifted student, the waiting list for the gifted class is very very long.

to my understanding, if the student is recognized as a gifted, he/she will have a right to get special education. How come on the waiting list?

waiting list is happened at the elementary school and the second school, not high school. High school offers more gifted programs.

primary gifted requires 99.6

There is waiting list, but it is not first come first serve. It is on a needing basis. 99.6 is the minimum requirement for primary gifted but might wait for couple years. 99.9 will usually immediately have a spot since the learner's need is higher with higher score.
