online petition to dissolve CRTC

Mandate

The CRTC’s mandate is to ensure that both the broadcasting and telecommunications systems serve the Canadian public.

My question: Whom is CRTC serving now?

We can't just sign a thing when we barely know the truth. The Canadian Heritage didn't get too much funding from the parliament, but the CRTC did.

What I can sense is the Canadian Heritage guy is using us to get rid of his enemy.

It's true that the CRTC does craps on regulating the telecom industry. But net neutrality is not a simple issue as it seems be. If we free the net, allow internet overuse, other issues like massive downloading would bring up the copyright crap to haunt us down.

We need to force the CRTC to change, rather than to get rid of it. Not mentioning that CRTC is the only one who ensures multiculturalism infused within Canadian programming.

The CRTC has public hearings every week and its website is open to public comments.

I think I couldn't care less about the struggle between the aforementioned two organizations.

Down to simple facts, I don't want my internet limited any more than it already has been.

I hate it when I am just about considering switching to ACANC in order to have unlimited download...
and CRTC is not doing its jobs by allowing the already huge Rogers to buy up competitors such as fido, sprint....virgin mobile is brought by Rogers or Bell?

among others...

I suspect it is in bed with those big companies...

This doesn't make sense.

Copyright issue has been brought up with or without the internet 'overuse'...two separate issues as far as I can see.

What is net neutrality? what's overuse?

well, to simply put, net neutrality refers to content, internet usage, downloading and whatever appears or whatever in association with the internet is ALL FREE of RESTRICTION. This means people can put whatever they want on the web.

Copyright and internet use are not two separate issues, but they relate to each other very closely:
If we let net neutrality run the web without any regulation or restriction, there will be more chances for people to upload and download stuffs. This is absolutely what the copyright holders don't wanna see.

This is ridiculous. Why shouldn't we have net neutrality?
Net neutrality means simply that all like Internet content must be treated alike and move at the same speed over the network. The owners of the Internet's wires cannot discriminate. This is the simple but brilliant "end-to-end" design of the Internet that has made it such a powerful force for economic and social good.

Lawrence Lessig & Robert W. McChesney:[4]
Why Copyright and internet use are not two separate issues? just because there are 'more chance' for people and download and people should be restricted of internet use? what country are we living?

The last time I checked wikipedia's definition of net neutrality, there was not mentioning of copyright, did you invent it yourself??
Network neutrality - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

why CRTC should only care what the copyright holders want or not want to see? how about US? Did we invent the internet for the copyright holders?

I've been hoping all my life that I could invent things. :D A lot of issues don't appear on the textbook but sometimes you can't deny its existence.

One of my profs was a former CRTC commissioner. Net neutrality and copyright was the most important topic of our course discussion throughout the term. There is book called "The Future of Ideas", also addressing this issue and explains all your questions.

To make you feel better, just try to imagine yourself as a great song writer or a genius scholar who wrote tons of great articles. If people all download your stuffs for free online, you wouldn't get any benefit from your works and you probably wanna sue them. Copyright charge is obviously overwhelming, so the regulators, such as the CRTC would rather regulate the internet to warn the illegal downloaders, although lots of people are still doing it, including myself. :D
