As mentioned above, SVGA and VGA cables have big differences.
The cheapest one is VGA cable, 6ft around $5 to $7, that is NOT gold plated, it is very easy to identify, the one without gold plated connector is cheap vga cable and outside cover is not black, (white or grey)
The SVGA cable normally is gold plated, coaxial and use many shielding layers to enhance transmission, the price, of course is higher than VGA cable. When you check the connector, it should be golden color(gold plated) and the cable is heavier than cheap VGA cable. the price of such cable is around $8 to $15. The outside cover of cable is usually black.
Even for SVGA cable, there are different qualities, single shielding, double shielding, triple shielding. So the price also varies.
For old computer, VGA is fine, for computer/laptop bought in the recently year, you had better go with SVGA cables. When we compare the same quality stuffs, Factory direct price is NOT the best in the town. You need to check local guys around you at office, they know where to go.
